restoration
Restoration includes rust removal, and the removal of old seasoning & gunk. I strip the piece down to bare iron using a lye bath and an electrolysis tank, with plenty of scrubbing as well. I season pieces with my blend of grapeseed oil & beeswax. Everything I restore gets seasoned 3 times, except for dutch ovens and dutch oven lids, which are seasoned 6 times.
I will not use any destructive method in my restoration process, including self-cleaning oven, wire wheel, media blaster, sander/sandpaper, fire-cleaning, or a grinder. This is non-negotiable.

Policies & Procedures
Payment
Payment is not accepted up front. Payment is only due upon pick-up, after the completion of the restoration. The reason I do not accept payment up front, is sometimes, after cleaning off old rust and grime, I will find a crack. In these cases, I stop the restoration process, and inform the client. If the client wants to continue with the process anyway, I will complete the restoration and charge the stated price. If the client decides to stop the process, I will do so at no charge.
Timeframe
My restorations usually take 2-4 weeks. Sometimes they can take a couple months. So much depends on my schedule outside of cast iron, and the number and type of pieces that are in line ahead of your restoration. If you need a quick turnaround, please let me know that up front, and I will try to accommodate, if I can.
Vegetarian/Vegan
Many cast iron restorers use lard for seasoning. I use a blend of grapeseed oil & beeswax. My normal seasoning is vegetarian-friendly. Due to my use of beeswax, however, it is not vegan-friendly. If you would like a vegan-friendly seasoning, please state that up front, and I will use only grapeseed oil in the seasoning.
Kosher
I do not keep a kosher kitchen, but as far as I understand it, nothing in my process is against the most basic kosher rules. If you keep kosher, or have any other dietary concern, and would like to know more about my process, I am happy to have that conversation, and you can decide if my services are okay for you.
I reserve the right to turn down any restoration for any reason.
